A solicitor in the firm’s immigration team, Mairi is skilled at handling a range of immigration and nationality matters for business and individual clients.

 

Her experience spans immigration for corporate and educational organisations; human rights claims; acting for entrepreneurs, investors and other high net worth individuals; personal immigration; advising EU nationals; and nationality claims.

She has successfully advised on a wide range of complex and discretionary visa and nationality matters for individuals. Her work with corporate clients has included applications for licences to sponsor migrant workers; advising on Right to Work checks; undertaking mock audits to ensure immigration compliance; and representing businesses and educational institutions audited by the Home Office. She has also developed immigration seminars and Right to Work trainings for clients and colleagues.

Mairi is an active member of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA), and volunteers with a charity providing support to children and young people to register as British citizens.

Notable cases include:

  • Assisted a boutique brasserie to expand their business to pop up and catering services with a sponsor licence application and subsequent application for chef to come to the UK

  • Successfully challenged Home Office’s ‘Intention to Revoke’ an educational institution’s sponsor licence. Subsequently ran a mock audit with the organisation to ensure compliance with the Immigration Rules, and represented the client at their next Home Office audit

  • Obtained leave to remain in the UK for a family on Human Rights grounds, including Article 8 and Article 3 of Human Rights Act

  • Represented a client appealing a refusal of an application to remain in the UK on the grounds of domestic violence. The client was subsequently granted permission to remain in the UK

  • Advised individuals who lost Indefinite Leave to Remain due to extended absences from the UK during Covid-19 pandemic, and assisted with successful applications to return to the UK

  • Advised an international media company in transferring employees to the UK to undertake work experience rotation as part of a trainee programme
